The online courses Stingless Bee Rescue and Stingless Bee Management and Multiplication were developed from the knowledge we acquired in our research on this important insect. Fundamental to life on Earth – since they pollinate most of the vegetables consumed by the world’s population – bees play a central role in generating income for local honey producers in southeastern Pará, more precisely in Canaã dos Carajás and Curionópolis. Each course is two hours long.
Check out the program for the Stingless Bee Rescue course: introduction; history of bees; ecological importance; bee biology applied to rescue; species most commonly found in Carajás and the eastern Amazon region; where to look for bee nests; what to do after finding a colony; rescue; and conclusion.
Check out the program for the Stingless Bee Management and Multiplication course: what are stingless bees?; stingless bee biology; caste determination and queen production; colony multiplication: strategies for melipona and other species; management and care after multiplication; and conclusion.
