The project aims to enhance the monitoring and analysis of the physical, chemical, and biological characteristics of the waters of active lagoons in the Carajás cangas, assessing baseline water conditions and how hypothetical scenarios of regional change, especially those associated with iron ore mining, may affect the hydrobiogeochemical dynamics of these aquatic ecosystems. The initiative includes evaluating the lagoons’ topobathymetry, developing an algorithm to calculate water balance, and conducting geochemical, physicochemical, and limnological water sampling and analysis. Expected outcomes include identifying multivariate patterns and natural seasonal variations, quantifying the influence of hydroclimatic variables, and assessing scenarios that represent anthropogenic change in relation to water quality, water quantity, and their relationship with local biological conditions.
