GBB Management Team

The governance of the Genomics of the Brazilian Biodiversity (GBB) project is shared between two management groups: one composed of researchers from the Vale Institute of Technology for Sustainable Development (ITV DS) and the other formed by staff from the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio). This structure fosters integration between science, technology, and public policies for conservation. The project is coordinated by Alexandre Aleixo, representing ITV DS, and Amely Martins, representing ICMBio, ensuring strategic alignment and collaboration to strengthen research and biodiversity protection.

ITV + ICMBIO PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT

ITV
The Vale Institute of Technology for Sustainable Development (ITV DS) is a private, non-profit institution that conducts basic and applied research focused on sustainable development, with an emphasis on the Amazon. It integrates science, innovation, and traditional knowledge to generate positive impacts in the territories. The institute is equipped with advanced DNA sequencing technologies, including genetic barcodes and chromosome-level reference genomes, as well as a robust computational infrastructure to support biodiversity conservation.
ICMBio
The Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio) is responsible for managing, protecting, monitoring, and overseeing the 344 Federal Protected Areas across Brazil. Established under the National System of Nature Conservation Units (SNUC) Law, these areas have unique characteristics that collectively represent the vast richness of Brazil’s biodiversity, which must be conserved and protected. The institute also manages 14 National Research and Conservation Centers dedicated to different areas of biodiversity-related knowledge.
