PhD in Zoology
Marcely Valois de Lima holds a PhD and a master’s degree in Zoology from the Graduate Program in Zoology of the Federal University of Pará/Emílio Goeldi Museum of Pará (UFPA/MPEG). Since graduating, she has been researching the taxonomy of Neotropical edaphic beetles, with a focus on Scarabaeinae, Dynastinae, and Cetoniinae. During her doctorate, she conducted research at the Finnish Museum of Natural History (LUOMUS), improving systematic techniques, including the analysis of internal genitalia and exoskeletal structures. As a researcher with a grant from ITV DS, she has expanded her studies to other beetle families associated with caves in Pará and Minas Gerais. She works on the identification, curation, and description of species in mining areas, with emphasis on morphology, DNA sequencing, phylogeny, and mitogenomes. She is also engaged in scientific communication and in teaching taxonomy through mentoring, lectures, and publications.
