Information, Communication and Industrial Automation Technologies

The focus of this research line is the development and the integration of computational, communication and computer systems required for the automation of mining processes, allowing the implementation of systems for monitoring and control that aims to increase the efficiency of mining production. Part of the research consists of specifying processors and industrial computers that can take measurements of instrumentation devices and control drivers installed in the most diverse mining processes. This research line also covers the study of techniques and systems for data transmission, an adaptation of network protocols, development of solutions, and specification of communication equipment appropriate to the operating conditions found in mining. Finally, it aims to research the enabling role of the Industrial Internet - joining the Big Data and Internet of Things - in the development of intelligent mines and plants, composing of autonomous systems of drilling, sounding, explosives, infrastructure, and ore transportation.
