(PT) Revegetação do depósito de resíduo de bauxita: uma análise de técnicas promissoras para o caso da Hydro Alunorte

Summary: Approximately 120 million tons of bauxite residue is produced annually and according to estimates the global stock of this material have exceeded 3.5 billion tons. Due to the increasing demand for aluminum in the coming years, the stock of bauxite residue will remain a growing threat for aluminum companies. Revegetation of bauxite residue deposits is the most promising method to mitigate the environmental inherent risk of this material. The current work shall be understood as a technical study that describe promising guideline and practices adopted for rehabilitation in bauxite residues in order to support the closer plan of deposit residue from Hydro Alunorte. It was performed technical analyses adopted in revegetation over bauxite residues with similar characteristics from Hydro Alunorte. It was evaluated conditioning proposals of bauxite residue in order to improve physical and chemical characteristics. It was also evaluated plant species able to tolerate the high sodicity content and high pH. It has been found that the incorporation of gypsum and organic matter in the surface layers of the bauxite residue are able to provide more favorable conditions for the establishment of plant community. Among the plant species, some halophytes and tree species showed good development on the bauxite residue, such as Acacia spp and Eucalyptus spp. In conclusion, it was prepared a technical proposal for revegetation of DRS1 Hydro Alunorte, which is based on the best practices found by the time of this study.
