Effect of bainite transformation on microstructure and wear resistance in pearlitic rail steel

Summary: Pearlitic steel with high strength, high hardenability, great wear resistance, and low production cost is widely used as railroad rail steels all over the world. Gauge-corner wear on rails occurs by the accumulation of plastic strains due to the repeated contact of the wheel flange with the rail gauge corner at the curves, causing premature failure of rails. Railway companies spend a large amount of resources with lubrication and rail grinding in order to extend the rail service life.
