On April 29th, 2016 the opening ceremony of the Professional Master in Instrumentation, Control, and Automation in Mining Processes took place. Coordinated by the Vale Institute of Technology in partnership with Federal University of Ouro Preto (UFOP), in the city of Ouro Preto (MG), where ITV mining is located, the course aims to certify professionals with knowledge applied in mining considering the areas of automation, instrumentation, and control and able to attend to new market demands. 20 students, including 10 Vale employees from different operational units in Brazil, compose the first class.

Besides the representatives of the institutions that are responsible for coordinating the masters course, Jorge Almeida Guimarães, CEO of the Brazilian Company, Industrial Research and Innovation (Embrapii) was invited to speak to students. He established a prospect of the development of research and innovation in Brazil and emphasized the tendency that post-graduates should be employed by companies. “In 2014, 44% of the research investment in Brazil came from private resources”, he said.
