Environmental Geology and Water Resources

Research with an interdisciplinary approach aimed at characterizing the physical environment and understanding its evolution. This is a directed action for supergenic processes and understanding the dynamics of landscape formation, as well as for the monitoring and management of water resources. The group is also interested in evaluating the impact of anthropogenic actions on the environment in areas of interest for mining. The researches are preferably focused on the Itacaiúnas River basin, a natural laboratory of great interest to Vale. In this context, the group studies the processes of formation of the lagoons and ferruginous canga (laterites) of the region of Carajás, as well as of the associated caves.
